Am I the only one who is a little stunned that today is the first day of May?
Two (three?) weeks ago it was snowing. Not flurries or snow showers, but several days of on and off snow.
It didn't amount to much, but it was persistent.
Now it's May. It feels like I lost a month or two somewhere. Oh well, it's the first of the month again, which means it's time for a new quote.
This month's quote comes from Dr. Seuss and is a nod to one of those quirky little truths in life.
You have to be odd to be number one.
I thought this was more fun that profound, but there is a kernel of truth in his message. If we want to stand out, we have to be a little different.
It's not easy, especially for women. We get a lot of mixed messages and many of us spend almost as much time trying to fit in as we do trying to stand out.
Instead of finding a balance, I think most of us just lose sight of the things that make us unique. Which brings me to May's challenge. (Where did that come from? Is it a new thing? Do I need to start throwing out challenges every month?)
This month, I want you to identify three things that make you different in your chosen arena. Work, hobbies, sports, relationships — wherever it is you want to get noticed.
It doesn't have to be something completely off the wall as long as it is something that sets you apart. Maybe you bring a curiosity, patience, or clarity to projects. Maybe it's enthusiasm, skill, or perspective. Or maybe you just bring a little sparkle wherever you go. (That's one of my favorites.) Whatever they are, take those three things and apply them to your goal.
Do it for three months. Keep a journal or spreadsheet to track what you're doing and how well it works. If you're consistent, embracing your differentiator, the thing(s) that makes you different, will help you reach your goals.
