Happy New Year!
I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I'm finished with 2024. Or maybe it's just that I'm not ready for 2025. In either case, time waits for no man (or woman!) and we have to press on.
With that in mind, I'm sharing a quote from the author, Ray Bradbury.
Your intuition knows what to write, so get out of the way. -- Ray Bradbury
The thing I love about this quote is that while he was talking about writing, we can apply it to almost any part of our lives.
Think about it.
How often do we overthink things and get stuck in analysis paralysis?
Waffling about a career change
Trying something new
Making new friends or inviting someone to coffee
Once the doubt creeps in, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
It’s okay.
Taking risks can be scary, but it’s also an opportunity for adventure.
If this sounds familiar, don't stress. It's easier than you think to overcome the overthinking.
Start by taking an honest assessment of the actual risk vs. the perceived risk.
Once you have that, all it takes is a small shift in focus and a willingness to trust yourself.
And if you're wondering what this has to do with writing or Amoskeag Falls, well, it's everything.
Whether you're writing your own life story, or weaving a tale about a fictional world, it all comes down to trusting your instincts. (I do a lot of writing and it goes much better when I step away from what I think I should do and let it flow.)
If that's out of reach, take some time to figure out what's holding you back. Maybe it's an echo of the voice of a critical parent or teacher, a lack of money, or good old-fashioned fear of failure. These things are surmountable.
Let go of what no longer works and set yourself up for greatness.
It's only the first week of January. That gives you almost twelve months to write a brand new chapter.
