March ended in chaos, and the craziness just kept rolling into April. But you know what? Things are turning around. Or maybe I’m just getting used to having no control over my life or my characters.
Today’s post is a perfect example.
In the Amoskeag Falls series, Brandi Dawn has the role of sidekick to both the main character, Samantha Thomas, and Detective Jones. While she has an important part in all the stories, we don’t always get much opportunity to hear her narrative. And that’s a shame.
Brandi is observant and clever and mostly stays in the background. She’s used to being overlooked and undervalued (for now) and it surprised me when she asked me to give her a chance to be heard outside of the normal stories.
It wasn’t part of the plan, but how could I say no?
The Amoskeag Falls series is about learning how to find your power and using your unique voice. It would have been wrong to say “no” just because she’s not the main character.
Yes, it seemed a little weird to give a secondary character her own blog, but when I thought about it, it made sense.
Dr. John Watson, companion of the famous Sherlock Holmes, did it back in the 1800s.
They didn’t have blogs back then, but he wrote about his experiences with Holmes as short stories. I could make a convincing argument that those stories were the Victorian version of blog posts. But I don’t think it will come to that.
Brandi has a unique perspective and can give some interesting insights into the people of Amoskeag Falls. Plus, she’s one of my favorite people.
With that in mind, starting next week, Brandi will have a monthly post where she shares what happens in between stories.
She’s been a little fuzzy about specifics, but I think a lot of her focus is going to be on her own journey as she steps out of the shadows and embraces her Fae nature.
Between you and me, I'm excited to hear what she has to say.
